Cosmos,

Do you not know where you are going or are you just more comfortable caravaning with a group of cars out to autocross?

The weather is going to be hot. I was wondering if I should change my oil to synthetic for the autocross or will the original oil still be fine? I have about 1000 miles on the car.

You should change your oil to synthetic for several performance reasons, but the difference of ambient temperature from 90 to 100 is minimal. I push my car pretty hard (to mixed results ) at MW and never get more than 3 bars on the temp gauge. I even have a grill screen which everyone thought would cause overheating but doesn't.

When its hot at MW, the best performance enhancer is a golf umbrella, gatarade and sunscreen. The driver is the first thing to go.

Regards,

Al

That's easy.. just tell the course designers to set up a shorter course!
Now that's not very nice. You should be giving me encouragement. After all, I a newby to this stuff and you're a pro.

I know where I'm going, there are actually 2 routes and I usually take the millsap exit right off I20 and take the scenic route. I just thought it'd be less boring if a few people drove together, it's still a good 1-1.5 hour drive each way.

Al,

I plan to eventually go to synthetic, so I can track the car without popping the motor, but I've been told to hold off on changing the first oil change for a couple thousand miles, so the motor can break-in properly? So, I was thinking of putting in Mobil 1 Syntec at 2,000 miles or so. Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks for the info on what to bring out to the autox, it's probably been close to a year, since I've been to MW for an autocross. I've done a few track events, but no auto-x.

I personally wouldn't worry at all about converting to synthetic after 1k miles. AFAIK, Honda doesn't have any 'official' guidelines to follow after 600 miles on the clock.

I definitely wouldn't autocross the car on break-in oil...whatever crap the dealer has in there.

Not true. The owner's manual is very specific about not changing the original oil before the recommended time since the oil that comes in the car has special additives that help seal everything properly during break in.

I was not aware that manufacturers still use "Break in oil". I thought that was from the old days..
