As far as the 04 tires I was totally impressed! My impression was quite a bit different than the other posts.

I had a new set of 04 wheels and tires and I placed higher than usual with them. I did try a "granny" style of driving as well, but I had much more grip than the Kumhos and more than I remember off the S02s but that could have just been inexperience on the SO2s.

Next autocross I will have my 18" SO2s since I get to go pick up my Kinesis rims next weekend.

Any tips on alignment changes when you widen your tires significantly? Less camber?

Speaking of tires...

So, with this whole "screw in my tire" issue, I've realized that there aren't many choices for 16" tires at 245... Guess I'm going to look into some aftermarket rims while I'm shopping for tires anyway.

Guess the car will be parked until I decide (except for the 2nd cause it's so close and the tire IS holding air... just don't want to drive on it more than I need to)... unless... Anybody got some stock 16" SO2's that have some tread to last me a few weeks so I can figure out what I want to do that they'll sell me fairly cheap?

Doug,

The Hankook's are what I'm running. They are a great tire for the money.

Why are you worried about one tire? S02's are still made. Just replace that one.

Discount will order the tires for you.

Well, I've always heard that it's generally not a good idea to replace just one tire, that both (front or back) should be replaced at the same time.

Didn't say I was definately going to be getting new wheels all around... just indulging myself looking at em considering that option heh.

You should be able to safely plug the damaged tire and use it for mild street/highway driving. Then you can invest in a dedicated set of autocross wheels.

If you need a budget autocross setup, a used set of OEM wheels with new Hankooks shouldn't set you back more than $700 or so...roughly what a new set of S02s will run.

Just a thought...

I took it up to discount tire and they said it probably wouldn't be safe to fix... and nothing about my driving is "mild"... well not for long periods of time at least.

Yeah, IIRC, the screw was in a pretty bad place for a repair... right where the tread/sidewall meet.

My third run was on a pretty much flat tire because of a plug in a similar location worked loose. Another plug was enough to get us home, but it certainly didn't stand up to a second autocross. (Worked fine for #4.)

What's really bad thing about the whole situation is that I didn't even notice the issue during the run.
