Default Need Tires

I contacted Clovis's hookup @ DT but he is off until Monday (I might just wait). Anyways, my rear Potenzas are almost shot (not bald but getting real close) and I need to replace them with something. What is the general consensus on this around here? My fronts are fine and have a minimum of 5-7k left in them. Should I go with something else or be safe and just get some more Potenzas???

I'm running the Sumimoto HTR-Zs that Tirerack has on special for ~$60 a pop. Treadwear on them is very soft at 160 and I'm liking how they hold but I hear the Potenzas are better if money is not that big of a concern.
I'm on a college budget~

The general recommendation is to either:
2 Rears to match your fronts OR 4 new tires of your choice.

FWIW, I went with 4 new Kumho MX and tossed the fronts (inside wear).

I highly recommend waiting until Monday... Al is very straight forward and easy to deal with.

As for tires, the Protenza's are great tires... but a tad expensive... I too am running the Kumho MX's and haven't been disappointed with performance.

I think Marcus or Jon posted up a while back when tirerack was having a special on the Potenza RE050. I got 4 new RE050's (225 front, 255 rear) for $450 shipped.

Man, I need another one of those deals to come along! These really are good tires. Good wear, good grip, pretty quiet, great wet weather. I was chasing a Z3 down a highway recently through some pretty significant rain at ahem! good speeds and the car was rock solid.

if anyone wants some dirt cheap rear tires, I've got a pair of "Essenza Type R's" (some mississippi thing) off my girlfriend's mustang I'd let go for 20.00 (for both) Lot of useable tread left.

They are 245/45 17's - slightly taller than stock (helps fill in the fender gap )

I'm running the Kuhmo ASX's and since i don't drive very aggressive, they work just fine.
