Default Miata 3.636 ring and pinion?

Okay, this is only a daydream for now, but I'm thinking of changing the '04's final drive so that it matches the gearing (in terms of mph in each gear) of the '00-'03 cars. Mazda makes (made?) a 3.636 final drive for some 6spd Miatas that would do the trick. I cannot tell if it's an Australian only part or if there is a US part as well.

The part numbers I can come up with are M002-27-110A or MA02-27-110, but I'm not familiar enough with Mazda parts sites to really figure out if they're available and how much money it would be.

Can any of you Mazda folks help me out with this?

(This is assuming they'll fit into the S2000s diff at all, like the 4.44 gears do.)

I have a set. Want to look at them?

They were an Australian part & yes they fit.

If it's the same diff it will work. AFAIK there is only one Mazda/S2k rear end and there shouldn't be an issue.

It is definitely not a job for a novice. If you set the pinion depth wrong you will trash the R&P. Take it to someone who knows what they are doing.

I agree, Tood. I wonder if gernby needs some more beer?

David, I'm a little concerned by the gears having been used, but if you could bring them to the next club event so I can check them out, I'd appreciate it.

I never did any other diffs after my own. Todd is the man for that.

If you decide to make the switch, send the gear set out to be REM'd and cryo'd. This is where I sent mine: http://www.evansperformance.com/

As you'll see used isn't a problem. there are no discernible wear patterns. They weren't in the car long before it was wrecked.

I may have trouble coming to any events. I hurt my back about 3 weeks ago. I cannot even ride in a car, much less drive.

Ouch! David, hopefully you'll get back on your feet quickly. Where in Richardson are you? Perhaps I can swing by during my lunch break some day. How much were the gears new?

Fred... So, hmm, what exactly is this REM

Maybe you should just swap trannies with an '00-'03 person and be done with it.
