Not a chance. S2000 is way too fast for class X. The only car in class X that's fast enough to compete is the NC Miata. If you move the S2000 to X the NA, NB Miatas become obselete as well as any of the other usual FWD econoboxes. S2000 should sit squarely in Y. There's nothing in Y that severely out classes it except maybe a very well setup SP Evo/STi on street tires or an Elise on street tires.

#1 - The Fastest S2000 was beat by 4 X class cars
#2 - The Fastest S2000 was 1.834 seconds faster than the fastest X class car
#3 - The Fastest S2000 was 1.268 seconds faster than the fastest X class car
#4 - The Fastest S2000 was beat by 1 X class car
#5 - The Fastest S2000 was beat by 2 X class cars
#6 - The Fastest S2000 was 0.067 seconds faster than the fastest X class car
#7 - The Fastest S2000 was 0.100 seconds faster than the fastest X class car
#8 - The Fastest S2000 was beat by 2 X class cars
Note that some of the cars that I call "X class" above did not actually run in X class

Event 1. Top 2 X cars are the same NC Miata followed by a nationally competitive STS car. Fastest S2000 is Greg who has less than 1 season in a RWD, MT car transitioning from a FWD automatic GTI. There aren't many fast S2000 driver still running their cars in Y consistently.
Event 2. With an experienced S2000 driver and NC not in the equation S2000 wins by a huge 1.8 margin
Event 3. Ditto
Event 4. Again, NC Miata which I already explained is probably a class killer in X and could probably run in Y with the S2000.
Event 5. Ditto
Event 6. Etc Etc.......

I get your point about the old Miatas, but doesn't there have to be a point when a ~20 year old platform doesn't dominate its class? If not, then I believe the "bump list" needs to be expanded to include the new dominant cars, like the Evo.

Evo isn't that dominant against a S2000 provided similiar prep levels. Look at STR vs STU, pretty close times across various events around the country. I say leave the older Miatas in X, move the NC to Y with the S2000/Evo etc. Historically I think the S2000 has won more series championships in class Y than the Evo or Sti.

The BMW classing is fine. With the exception of the NC Miata the fast cars in X Class are the STS CRX, STS NA Miata, and STR NB Miata. The fastest cars in class Y are the boost buggies, and the STR S2000.
If you wanted to fix the classing the only real way to do it would be to just pull out the STR cars and put them in their own class. Nationals has shown that the STS cars can be very close in performance so that would make class X effectively STS. Without the STR cars class Y would become STU. Then just add the STR cars as a separate class, problem solved.
A fully prepped STU STI/EVO is faster then the STR car. Just look at nationals results, we just do not have any running in NTAXS or BMWCCA to show that speed differential. Especially on a lower grip surface like the Bus Lot, or the more open courses at MWells.
