Hill Country?
Any of you guys know a good aggressive hill country day trip route leaving from then returning to San Antonio? Going to be in SA in early Oct and thought it would be a perfect opportunity to drive some of the best in TX.

I guess you want better details....
Coming south out of downtown Dallas on I35 E, you can take US 67 south which will go through Cleburne TX, then Glen Rose, TX which is a little over 80 miles from the time you get onto US 67. After Glen Rose you turn off (left) onto Highway 220 and go towards Hico, TX. Once you arrive in Hico, turn right where the road T's and go towards the downtown area...a little less than a mile, and you'll get to US 281 southbound where you will turn right at the one and only stoplight in that town (at that light, to your immediate right is a place called the Koffee Kup. You'll want to stop there for pie and pick up some Dublin Dr. Pepper at the gas station there in town...of course, this is optional. Once you turn left at the light in Hico, you will be heading towards Hamilton TX on 281. It is a beautiful road without much traffic. In Hamilton, you'll stay on 281 all the way to San Antonio... You'll go through lots of nice little small towns such as Lampasas, Burnet, Marble Falls, Johnson City, Blanco, and Bulverde in that order, and it's a really pretty fall drive. It's the only route that I'll take anytime I go to San Antonio.
If you're leaving from the Ft. Worth side, you can head out on 377 south which will take you through Benbrook, Granbury, and Stephenville (where you will meet up with US 281 in Hico and where you will take a right at the one and only stop light in town to keep you on US 281).
I hope this helps...it's a much nicer drive than taking I35 all the way down...and the timing of it usually evens out because you don't have to deal with the traffic going through Waco and Austin.

candyass, didn't you come on the Stampede this past January? I thought you did. a few of the roads we drove are only an hour or two from SA. just start driving NW on back roads from SA and you're bound to find plenty of good ones.
