A friend had that happen on his RX7... shifted 1-2-3 fine could not force it into 4th, then into 5th worked fine. It started out with it would be difficult to get into 4th at times and then may pop out then eventually to the point where he couldn't use it at all. He ended up having to get his tranny rebuilt... not sure what happened but best guess would be the 4th gear synchro. Good luck.

Don't have any firsthand knowledge, but this post might be useful:

Edit: I guess this was the key sentence I was looking for from there:
So if it is hard to get your car into 5th or 6th it may be because the sleeve is being damaged by skipping gears. Hope this makes sense.

Should be covered under the 12/12, but I hope you didn't cancel your HondaCare....

p.s. Put your Airbox lid back on.

Anything that might call attention to "performance" or "racing" - So a loud exhaust wouldn't be the best thing on there if a Honda adjustor has to look at it....

Actually that isn't the only reason it sometimes doesn't go into fifth.

Once upon a time a long time ago there was an almost TSB about not using 5th for multiple gear changes (like on the track, etc.) and because of this the synchro doesn't get lubed enough and sticks on the shaft effectively blocking out 5th.

This happened to me. It was just like hitting a wall when you tried to put it into 5th. Oddly enough 6th worked fine (same shaft)

After about 2 days it went into 5th albeit like pushing the gear shift lever thru mud, but then it would pop out of gear like a bad synchro. I held it in gear and drove in 5th as much as I could. In less than a day everything was fine.

It has never reoccured. So I'd say drive it a day or so before taking it in. Keep trying to hit 5th. I think you'll be amazed that it finally starts going in.
