Engine noise at cold start
#15
Post audio/video so we can hear the noise and maybe get a better feel from what part of the engine bay it's coming from.
TCT is easy to diagnose, especially if you have an aftermarket air intake and it's easily accessible. Use an automotive stethoscope to listen to it directly. Alternatively, you can use a long screwdriver as a makeshift stethoscope. Put the pointy end against the back of the tensioner and hold the handle up to your ear. The key to fixing the problem is finding it.
Also, I didn't see you answer the question about the kind of oil that you're using. What brand & weight? Mobil 1 seems to be popular with people that suffer the TCT issues. Maybe it's just because a lot of people use M1. Maybe there's an actual correlation to M1 and the problem. I'm not sure which.
TCT shouldn't make the car run rough, though. However, that may just be an existing behavior that you didn't notice until hearing this new noise.

My many TCT issues came, I believe, as a result of using Mobil 1. I researched the subject quite a bit and discovered the chemical composition of M1 is if you will...too good for our cars. It actually ends up "polishing" the internal part of the TCT and this is what causes the "baseball card in bike spokes" sound. That internal part is also the part that gets modded by sandblasting and thus alleviates the awful ticking noise...If your oil is low it will cause the noise to be louder and sometimes just topping off the oil will fix it.

I am using Mobil 1 10w-30. After I changed the TCT the noise was still there, I will get a video tomorrow as the car is warm right now. Sometimes the idle likes to fluctuate and it drops below 700, but its kind of rare. I will try to listen using the screwdriver. I guess if it turns out to be the TCT, maybe someone on the boards can help me mod it. I don't want to do it myself.
