I know that there are forums dedicated to these issues, but thought that I'd start here.

I seem to have a little electrical issue that popped up yesterday for the first time. Every couple minutes or so the radio drops out for a split second. I was just thinking it was a issue with the station at first, but then noticed that it was happening on multiple stations.

I also noticed that it seemed to happen (sometimes) when the car would get a jostle (such as railroad tracks) but not every time.

This AM I also noticed that if I cut the steering wheel all the way to either side that it seems to cut not only the radio, but the power to the dashboard as well, and causes the ABS and another light (can't remember which exactly) to flash on. There is a slight thump when the wheels hit their stops so it could be a mechanical disturbance as well.

My first theory is that I have a bad ground somewhere, but since i'm in the office today i won't be able to really dig into it until late tonight or really even over the weekend.

Anyone have any suggestions in the mean time?

 

Sounds like a grounding issue, check all your grounds especially the one at the back near the ECU. Have you had any wiring/install work done recently?

 

a ground does sound like a possible culprit go to the electrical discussion forum and search/post your problem. what year are you and how many mile? stock radio ? suspicion mods? hope we can help

 

It was real humid this AM which could bring out issues, but of course I drove to a meeting and back this afternoon without issue

No work on the car at all so I'm starting from scratch. Stock suspension and radio, 135K miles.
I'm wondering where the best place to get a good wiring diagram is?

I'll try searching in the Electrical section of the forums for sure.
