So the motor I bought had a spun rod bearing. Seemed to run fine but the noise I had heard on initial start-up never went away, even after adjusting the valves. Looks like the S2k will be down for an even longer time. I need to start selling parts to fund the new short block, or just get rid of the car

I'm going to do everything I can to avoid having to part out. Didn't feel like tearing it apart this weekend, but I've got all week off to tear it down and figure out the damage. I am praying that the cylinder walls are fine, but I'm not very optimistic. At least I have a spare block that I can send out to get worked on.

Oh yeah, and the torque converter on that red car let go on Thursday, so I'm pretty much stranded w/o a car

I've done all this work myself so far. If it's just bearings, it's a cheap fix, although a PITA to work on.

And if I'm going to spend $2k+ on a bottom end, I can get the whole bottom end re-worked and re-sleeved for that price I'd much rather build it stronger/"faster". I'm about to head down to the garage and pull the head, I'll know then whether or not I need to worry about the sleeves.

[QUOTE=Texas_Phantom,Mar 10 2008, 12:05 PM] I may be totally wrong, but i don't think you can re-work the engine to be better than an OEM once it was hurt the way it was.

Tore it down completely to find that the walls were scratched in 2 and 3. Time to rebuild one of the bottom ends

At least the rough quote I got on the work wasn't too bad. Cheaper than a new shortblock from Honda, but just enough to keep the S2k off the road for a while longer. I'm going to start selling off a lot of the spare parts I have, guess it's time to get a membership here...
