Default Best S2K Tires

Another thread from the newbie. Thanks for everyone's input as I learn more about my car and the autocrosses/track days/tours. I've seen a lot of discussion on this forum in regards to who to buy/who not to buy tires from. What I have not seen is much talk about what tires are best and why.

I just got back from the BMT in Arkansas and did quite well on the all season tires that came on my '07 S2000. The question I've got is what tires do you run on, do you like them, and why/why not? I need to replace my tires with better performance tires and am not sure what to buy with so many options out there.

There's a Tire forum specifically devoted to this topic. You'd likely get better information there (and I'd recommend reading through some threads there or searching before posting.... that'll save you from being flamed).

As for my personal experiences... well, they probably wouldn't apply to you since I'm on the stock AP1 16" wheels, and probably don't have the same tires available.

I'm running the Kumho Ecsta XS on my car and they've been great so far. Just be sure to get the 255 rear width.

Direzza Star Specs! I think they're great when it comes to a balance between dry grip and price.

I have a brand new set of OEM Bridgestone's in the garage and will make you a good price if you want OEM's.

I also have 4 used but good racing slicks for $200 - a must for track days and there is a Harbor Freight trailer with a mounted tool box and tire carrier that can be towed behind your new S2K - price on the trailer is $400.

Get my new helmet mentioned prior and your race ready

Check your email for more items I must sell ASAP

I would caution any "new" S2000 (or any car, for that matter) driver from using R-compounds without some experience with both the car and track events. They offer little to no warning of when you're going to lose traction, as opposed to most all street tires that are more progressive. And when you do lose grip, you'll be going faster than you would be on street tires.

Just a friendly heads-up...
