Battery life?
I've driven my S2K for nearly 3 yrs 8 mos on the original battery. I'm wondering if I will have to replace it before trading, selling or turning the car in by April 15th next year. Anyone getting 4 yrs on the OEM battery?

I got 4 years + 2 months before my '00 OEM battery expired in November last year. I replaced the original Panasonic battery with a lightweight Genesis that can be secured with the stock clamps. I also purchased the post kit to fit the OEM battery cables.

Well, since mine is an 03 I can't really answer that but my guess is going to be that some people are and some people aren't.... Batteries can be finikey (sp?) about their life span because each one goes through a unique set of circumstances (how often used, fully recharged or not on each use, kept in the cold, ect ect ect).

Why would you care if it had a good battery if you traded it in, that's just more money out of your pocket and the dealer isn't going to care as long as the car starts correctly.

Most batteries won't last more than 3 years if you don't maintain them with distilled water. The S2k's is "maintenence free", but...
A trick that cdelena taught me a few years back is that "maintenence free" batteries are nothing more than regular batteries with a label over the fill plugs. Rip the label off and check it like you would any other battery. Add distilled water every 3-6 months to bring the levels up to the indicator (usually the bottom of the plastic column neck).
My old '01 S2k is still on the factory battery (I'm pretty sure CRDMS01 who bought it hasn't replaced it) and my Civic has I think 3+ years on the Autozone battery that's in it. My truck has I think 4 or 5 years on it's battery... it's been so long I can't remember when it was replaced last.

Batteries, in my experience, tend to fail all at once (or at least fairly quickly... maybe over the course of a week). The first battery I ever had to replace, I drove it over to a friend's house - no problem... after sitting parked for a few hours (with no lights left on or anything), the battery was toast.
I wouldn't go replacing it just because it's been a long time.... but if it goes out - yeah - put a new one in. They're not THAT expensive.
