I'll just pay the dang thing. I just laugh, because they claim the red light cameras are driven for the purpose of safety. I don't think I was unsafe in any way..... at least on that corner.

 

If they were in the name of safety, then they would not decrease the yellow-light time if the camera is not making enough money.

 

Lying about who was driving is a felony. Wouldn't recommend it.

 

Unfortunately you are at fault (and so is the white truck that was behind you). You have to come to a complete stop at any red light regardless if you're turning right or not.

They don't have to prove it was you, they just know that a car violated a traffic law and they have the license plate, which belongs to you in this case. If you weren't driving the car (if it was stolen or you let someone borrow it) you can go to court and provide evidence of an alibi.

My mom was pulled over for rolling through a stop sign like what you did here many years ago in our local neighborhood late at night when no one was around. So cops will pull you over for that kind of stuff if they have nothing better to do.

It sucks.

 

1) The light was red, the car never came to a complete stop. It has nothing to do with whether or not it was an "unsafe event." You broke the law, you get a ticket.
2) As mentioned, it's just a civil offense (like a parking ticket), so it won't affect your insurance. And they don't care who was driving, the ticket goes to the registered owner of the car. If you weren't driving, then I guess it's your responsibility to find the person that was driving and get your $75 from them.

 

You're hosed - that's definitely a roll. However, I've had my pic taken by alot of cameras for stopping beyond the white line has not yielded me a citation yet.

 

I know a member on here once let his wife drive his car and he proved it by showing an e-mail that was sent like a couple minutes within the time he was at fault. I think there was a option to prove it wasn't you but still not reveal who was driving. And no one gets a ticket. Something like that.

 

It depends upon how the laws of the state are written as to whether or not you can successfully contest it. In New York (the first state to use red light cameras in 1993), the laws are written that the owner of the car is responsible for all tickets regardless of who is driving. Red light violations, as a result, do not count as points on a license. They handle it the same way as a parking ticket. It doesn't matter who parked the car. You are responsible because it is your car.

Don't hate me ... but I worked on the team that brought the technology to The States in 1993 and implemented it first in NYC borough of Queens.

I hear that Texas legislation shut these things down. Supposedly once the contracts are up with the companies that maintain them they're coming down. Not sure how true that is but I read it somewhere on the boards.
