Rio Grande S2K Owner looking for group
Hi,
I would like to meet up with other S2K drivers and haven't seen any groups that cover the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas. Is this the closest group?

Hello! I think there are a few guys down in Corpus, but it's been a while.
There is a San Antonio/Austin group that would be the closest to you. Of course, you could always come up and join us in Houston...

Thanks, there isn't a lot of difference between Austin and Houston drive time wise, but SA is definitely closer. I would like to get together with people that are doing some autocrossing and track events as I would like to start doing some amateur racing. I am a complete greenhorn to any kind of racing and I had heard that there is a very active group in Houston that meets regularly that may be able to get me pointed in the right direction.

A few of us will be driving at the next Porsche club event at Texas World Speedway(College Station) in February. Try to get your registration in early because it fills up fairly quickly.
So how much snow did you get? I heard that Brownsville got 1.5" and Corpus got 4", and Victoria picked up 12"...

I'm not sure what the official snowfall was but it snowed enough out at my home to give about a 3-4" groundcover. There is still a bit of snow left on rooftops in my neighbourhood. Our Grandpups loved it, however it was very treacherous on the road until the ise cleared and most of our bedding plants are finished.
I would be interested in getting some driver training before actually racing. Is there any training available for a reasonable cost during these events?

We had about 4-5" in our neighborhood and a lot of our plants our showing some freeze burn. I guess they're not going to make the spring either.
I should clarify that the Porsche Club event is a Driver's Education event and not a race. An instructor will be assigned to you and will be in a controlled environment throughout the entire event. It helps having someone show you the driving lines and evaluate your technique.
This is a link to their website, which helps explain most of your questions.

We have 2 instructors in our group, SilverS2000 and RudyW, that will be glad to help you out further.

Thanks a lot for all your help, joe_s2k. That makes it much more comforting to know there will be instructors available to get me going. I really appreciate this board, it is truly a wealth of information and experience.
