i'll try stopping by pro-am this weekend.
your advice on diff oil handling is very helpful. I had no idea that diff oil might actually contain some harmful stuff for our synchros. I will also remember to get some hoses.
thanks johnny

GTX is good enough, especially if you swap it out every 3,000 miles. Synthetic oil is a waste as far as I am concerned, unless you keep it in your car forever and just top up... I actually change my oil only every 5,000 miles.
Not sure about gear and diff oils. My guess would be no. I used Mobil and Syncromesh the last time.

I am going to try changing the tranny oil and diff oil in my 240 first for practice. GLI-4 for MT, GLI-5 for diff. Castrol has something called Hyproq or something like that.
I found a bottle of Pennzoil Synchromesh at Autozone, but I don't think it has the same properties as Synchromesh Friction Modified.

Castrol GTX is a decent oil but nothing special at all and its UOA's aren't that great.
If you're going to use a dino/conventional oil I would either use Chevron Supreme 10W-30 or Motorcraft 10W-30. They are two of the best conventional oils on the market right now and readily available. Chevron Supreme can be found at almost any Chevron gas station and the Motorcraft can be purchased at any Ford dealership.
With that said I am using:
Redline 10W-30 for OIL
AC Delco 10-4014 which is GMSFM in another bottle for TRANNY
LE607 for DIFFERENTIAL
I order the Redline at www.myoilshop.com, the LE607 from Ludedude at the s2ki marketplace, and the AC Delco tranny fluid I buy here in town. IMO you should avoid Pro-Am at all costs. They are one of the few places in town that carry specialty fluids, they know this, and they charge accordingly. The last time I was there they wanted $10.49 per qt. of Redline so I left never to return again.
