Thumbs up OIL - Where to find?

Hey folks,

So, what are you putting in your cars for
1. Motor
2. Trans
3. Diff

I'm thinking of replacing MT and Diff oil, I have seen threads recommending Redline and LE products, but can I get this stuff anywhere around Houston?

Thanks,

k

This is my current set-up.

1. Redline 10w30
2. Redline MT-90
3 LE 607

For the tranny I suggest trying out different fluids and seeing which one you and your tranny likes. I strongly suggest GM Syncromesh Friction Modified. That is going to be my next tranny fluid. I really like MT-90 but sometimes it's really notchy. Other then that it's awesome when it warms up and I don't grind anymore. You can buy redline fluids at the s2ki marketplace and the LE diff fluid and syncromesh at www.hardtopguy.com. I have found that hardtopguy.com has better prices for the tranny fluid and LE oil than s2ki marketplace. Hope that helps.

To add to what Dustin said, if they hand you a bottle of friction modified additive, tell them that's not right. That's what happened with me at Lone Star Chevrolet. They handed me regular syncromesh fluid and a small bottle of Friction modified additive. That additive is for clutch type LSD's where the friction of coefficient determines when the LSD engages/disenagages and IS NOT meant to be used with the tranny. They looked at me funny when I told them there existed a GM Syncromesh Friction modified tranny fluid untill they searched it in their chem book. I have the part number somewhere on my desk, but I can't find it at the moment, when I do, I'll post it up.

Can't go wrong with Castrol.

Of course I might be biased.

Thanks for your responses. Maybe if we go to the same dealership for the GMSFM they'll eventually catch on and know what we are asking for. I read the thread on the trouble that people have had in getting the right bottle.

Johnny: The S&H kind of killed the marketplace idea, i'll check into hardtopguy.com. Did you need a pump for the LE-607?

To Ulrich: Does Castrol make gear and diff lube too?

Those of you that said Castrol for your engine, are you using GTX or Syntec?

The floor jack came in yesterday so I might try something Sunday.

If you're really trying to get a hold of redline fluids, I know pro-am on richmond also sells Redline fluids.

As for your question about the LE-607, nah I don't use a pump, but what I do is I leave the LE607 in a bowl of hot hot water prior to the fill. Then you use some fuel/coolant/oil hoses and stick it on the spout. I just squeeze the fluid into the tranny/diff. Just remember DO NOT use the same hose for the tranny/diff. The diff fluids usually contain chemicals which corrode our brass syncros, so keep that in mind and use seperate hoses. Hope that helps.
