Default Oil - once again

I called 4 Houston Honda dealers to ask what oil they recommend for a 2007 s2k - they all had differenet answers. 10W-30 synthetic, 10W-30 conventional (NEVER synthetic I was told), 10W-30 blend and Goodson West put in 5W-20 - 6 quarts in fact so I had them do the whole thing over and they were OK with that - but I still never knew the synthetic brand or why they recommended 5W- 20. Any ideas on the best oil? I am thinking Mobil 10W-30 for Houston????

Honestly, it is user preference as most of today's oils are all mostly on par with each other. As long as you stick with the well known brands (Valvoline, pennzoil, Mobile 1, Castrol, ETC) you should be fine. Just change your oil on schedule and you'll be good to go.

10W-30 is the correct weight for the F20/F22C motor.

As for synthetic, I normally use Amsoil. Mobile 1 has been used by many and have shown great results. However I've been seeing a growing number of people with timing tensioner issues that have all used Mobile 1 syn. I DO NOT imply that Mobile 1 is the culprit, but from what I see, people with timing tensioner problems all have recorded that they use Mobile 1, maybe just a fluke or something.

I know many Houstooks use Mobile 1 with 75+K miles without any tensioner issues, who knows.

no royal purple. the purple coloring coats the inside of your motor. it doesnt necessarily hurt anything, but it does in fact coat the motor. i used to use it on my Si until i changed my cams and noticed the black coating on everything.
