New to S2K scene... do people still do this....?
Back in 2000 I owned an LS1 Z28 and was really into cruising and such. I remember before the whole The Fast and The Furious phenomenon cool people used to get together in parking lots and check out each other's cars.
Most memorable was the Miami Subs on Westheimer, people w/NICE CARS used to go and just hang out in the parking lot. You'd see old muscle cars, exotics, and nice domestic & import cars all intermingling. The people were nice and polite and would just chill back and relax checking out each other's cars.
Well, I hate to say it but everything kinda changed after teenagers started getting into the whole TF&TF racing scene. They'd come up to Miami Subs and act like jackasses and well, needless to say, parking lot meetings became notroious for drunken kids w/import cars doing stupid stuff, fights, streetracing, and police, it all became a BIG MESS. It all was capped off tragically and completely w/the contrivercial huge K-Mart police raid (remember that?). The parking lot thing ENDED.
After I sold my LS1 and got a truck I began seeing some people hanging out at the Barnes and Noble on Hwy6. Now that I have my '04 S2k (sold the truck) I wouldn't mind finding a spot like we used to have in the good ol' days, filled cool people w/appreciation for nice cars.
Does this happen anymore? Do strangers still hang out in public places to admire each other's cars?
If so, where?

Welcome to the HouStook brotherhood.
We will be meeting at the Chili's on Westhiemer/ Greenridge(Near Fountainview) on August 7th. We usually just talk and eat for a few hours and then head out to other places.
Due to all of the reasons that you've stated, we haven't hung out in a parking lot in quite a while. We got tired of being hassled by all of the police.
Keep up with the HouStook forum<here> for any GTG (Get-To-Gethers) that are being planned, as most are open to the group.
