Default Insurance Rant

Okay, so I finally got around to getting a quote for the S2000 for living in Houston. Those bastards at State Farm effectively doubled my rates versus what I pay in Chiacgo, and the same thing goes for my RAV 4. Despite me halving my daily commute, too, so you know I'm not a high-mileage driver.

$628 per six-month period. And that's with a $1,000 dedctible, too. Something doesn't quite add up.

F*ckers.

Any suggestions?

A blinding flash of the obvious!

I'm sure this has already been covered in a separate thread, but who are you guys with and what's the average rate you pay (and your terms)?

Ulrich, I hate to say it, but that's about par for Harris Co.

Thru Travelers Ins., Mark's car is $1098 annually, Mine is $897. (He's got a speeding ticket on his record.) We have $1K deductibles as well. But, this is discounted 10% since I'm a licensed agent and get to absorb the commission credit.

You can get a quote with Travelers thru Focus Insurance: (713) 425-6700. They are an entity of my former employer, located at 11111 Katy Freeway.

We did have a thread going on this before, not sure when.

Good luck!

We pay ~$2300/yr for the S2k & and '00 Accord w/ $500 deduc. That's w/ AAA and includes all the various discounts available.

I WAS with Allstate, and they went up to $3400/yr!!!

I would be happy to pay just $628 every 6-months.

The reason rates are so HIGH here is because about half of the drivers on the road in Houston are uninsured. The percentage is 80% in South Texas.

Oh, looky! I got a new badge!! What a nice surprise.

Of course I am in Harris County. Dammit.

Maybe it'd be worthwhile to keep my registration/insurance in Illinois active instead of registering the cars down here...

That would work... if you can keep your IL license.

I made the mistake of not having the same address on my insurance card as I did on my I.D., long story short I misunderstood the steps needed to comply with the violation I received and ended up having a warrant issued for my arrest.

HUGE pain in the a$$.

I pay $650 for the s2k and a 1994 Ram With USAA. ($500 deductible). Although, I'm in Fort Bend. Not sure you can get into USAA without serving in the military or a child of a person serving.
