Sucks man, be careful out there, at least with defensive driving it won't go on your record as long as it this is your only moving violation within a year

Currently because of the laziness of the state there is a loophole where front license plates are no longer required, that will change very soon. http://www.huffingto..._n_1098274.html

As for the rear, see section 7: http://texinfo.libra...bills/SB439.pdf (Not sure if this still in effect with new regulations)

TXDOT has not renewed the information on their website, they are still claiming that you must have 2 license plates...
Actually, according to the letter of the law neither front nor rear license plates have been required since 1/1/12. I'm not quite ready to push LEOs' buttons by educating them on how our legislators screwed up on the side of a road, however.
ive read about that "new law" but im not quite shure bout the lack of rear but so far ever since goin 2 ap2 bumper ive been front plate-less

I NEVER had a front plate on my cars, and I've been driving in TX for 16 years. I've had 2, maybe 3 cops tell me I needed one during stops (usually for speeding). Only one time did I get a ticket, and that was from DPS. A couple of buds and I had been driving VERY fast through BFE, and unknown to us, the motorists we passed were calling us in. We later got busted for speeding at a much more moderate clip outside of Fredericksburg, but the officer noted they'd been looking for us for hours. He tacked on no front plate violations, and they were not "fixable". Fortunately, no front plates aren't a moving violation. I suspect it's mainly an enforcement tool cops can use to harass ricers or pull over suspicious looking drivers/vehicles.
