S2KCA Track Day - Nov 14th - Harris Hill Road
#11
Oh I love a good old internet warrior clashes. Armor up!
As for street and track talk. Evil Lies if you are going to talk smack about running someone on the track, especially Chris, put up!
As for Chris talking smack about being the lead on the drives... Well... Ya you were ahead of me on the last drive....
BTW, saying that is takes balls to do something on the street isn't exactly right, it takes stupidity to do something on the street. And if you don't think I know about the streets, just ask around... I have been to my fair share of rodeos...
And let me make it clear Evil Lies, this is not a personal attack, I am just stating my opinion which happens to vary from yours. Obviously you have your fair share of experience and background, plus I like forced induction (FTW).
Flame on!

Yes Chris and RavynX (the sidekick) [you're] right, I would kill both of you on the street were it takes balls do to do something. As for on the track [you're] right you would beat me, I get sick of going in circles.
What Im really trying to say is you can talk S*** either way! Some people like a cruise! Others like the Track as for me I dont care! I think that you should have an open mind to almost anything! Respect others and others should respect you! So why talk trash on a cruise when people dont talk trash on your track thing!

We all love to go on cruises it's just that the Track Day got scheduled on the cruise. I think Ricky put it best when he says he likes going on cruises with people that he knows the experience levels of. When you don't know how other people drive and they are careless on the road they get the whole group in trouble, not just themselves.
If you took something personally or feel guilty about something said here or on the other thread, that's your issue to deal with. You get sick of going in circles? We get sick of people like you on the street which is why we take our racing to the drag strip or a track. You get respect from the wrong people on the street encounters and you endanger not only yourself but everyone else around you.
When you assume you make an ASS out of U and ME but mostly you; go look up Harris Hill Road or Driveway Austin whenever you get a chance. Hope to see you alive and well on the forums after your "street encounters." Don't do anything to harm anyone else on the cruise; we like to see our friends alive and kickin'.

The drama is strong in this thread....
Street = not a place to test the limit of your skills or the cars
So back to the main topic: Could someone please describe a typical day at these HPD events?
I need to bleed my brakes, just got an oil change. Tranny and diff fluids are still within range. Tires have a lot of life on them...
Anything else?
oh and this thread reminds that

Definitely way too much drama. Thanks Hisham.
Typical track day (from my one day experience, haha)
Prepare your car for the track...
You must get your car inspected 1-30 days prior to the event. This is not the State inspection but rather a checklist that an ASE or Certified shop must sign off on;Sondra should send you the checklist when you register.
Things to check before paying to have someone inspect your car:
- Bleed/Flush the brake fluid.
- Make sure your brake pads have more than half their life left (they will be used heavily!)
- Make sure your tires have adequate tread depth (at least 3/32 of an inch)
- Have a SNELL rated helmet (M or SA)
- Wear shoes that will allow you to not get caught up in the pedals
- Windshield - No Cracks & wiper blades functional
- Exhaust system cannot be louder than 95db at 30 feet away (They WILL test it if they think it's too loud, they pulled me aside with my AP1 and it was right at the limit with my exhaust setup)
- Make sure your battery is secure like at the auto-x events
Things to bring with you:
- Documentation (Checklist signed by the shop, auto insurance card, driver's license)
- Wind gear. I cannot stress this enough, it's WINDY out there. It may be 80 degrees but that wind will suck the heat away from your body, dress appropriately. This is coming from me who dresses in shorts & t-shirt when it's 40-50 outside. I was still in shorts but I threw a long sleeve shirt on at lunch time.
- Bring sunscreen and fluid. It sucks to spend the next week with dry and burnt skin.
- Torque wrench to re-torque your lug nuts to 80 after every session.
- An extra quart or two of oil. You will most likely go through a quart. My AP1 did.
- A full tank of gas at the track. Drive up, fill up, then hit the track. I got 9 mpg when I was on the track. Track is 1.8 miles, sessions are 20 minutes so about 10-12 laps? That's roughly 80 miles or 8.88 gallons.
- Bring a basic set of tools such as 8/10/12/14mm sockets, phillips & flathead screwdrivers, etc in case anything loosens during your sessions.
- Bring painter's tape (blue tape) if you don't want any chips in your paint or cracks in your headlights. There isn't too much traffic with only 50 people split among 4 sessions on a 1.8 mile track but you can still hit traffic if someone is being slow and doesn't let others pass.
Edit: And what Joey said below this post. You get there around 7-8am, sign in, driver's meeting where they explain the track rules and how the light-system works. You get four 20-minute sessions split between morning & afternoon and you hang out with others in between your sessions just like at autocross. Lunch is provided, usually burgers & hanging out at the club house. Lots of fun!

A typical day consists of doing some heats, hanging out in the pit with others and learning about their rides, talking with instructors and learning new techniques and of course lunch.
I really love going to the track and I encourage anyone who has never done it to go out. No offense to the parking lot autocross people, but going to the track is just a whole other level. The elevation changes and multiple car participation make it very exciting.
