Thumbs up I'm thinking about retiring in Texas

Hi all,
I currently own property in San Diego but will be retiring in the next few years. It's come down to either Arizona (Phoenix area) or Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth).

Can anyone give me a few pros/cons for retiring in Texas? I will be looking for employment but I prefer Suburia for the larger square footage homes.

Please take a few moments to fill me in on things such as jobs/cost of living/taxes/weather or any other issues good or bad. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Tim

Any areas in Texas to avoid? Crime.... Natural disasters? I'm leary about anywhere near the gulf area due to hurricanes and such. Which is why I've scratched all of Florida off my list.

a lot of military retire in san antonio.

also, the housing market in SA is kinda weak right now, so you could probably get a good deal in the next 6 months or so.

dallas/ft worth traffic sucks

You wont like Texas weather as much as San Diego. I was at MCRD around mid June with high temps in the low 70's. When we returned to Austin it was 95
