Different clutch between AP1 and AP2?
Seen a lot of differences between the AP1 and the AP2, but i was not aware the clutch was one of them??? if that true????
I own an 01 and I saw an 08 NFR at IPAC by Ingram, so went and got a test drive for S&G's. The clutch was feather light.....it ****ed me up soooo bad, so either honda went for a big clutch change at some point(is that just somthing I missed?) or A) the one at IPAC had some hella light clutch installed or B) my car had some heavier clutch installed b4 i picked it up, or C) Somthing very wrong with my clutch(not as likely)
Anyone to shed some light? I thought my clutch was pretty decent, but damn, i could spit hard on the clutch pedal of the NFR and make a smooth shift.
It was a trip to go from driving the 1st production setup to the last production setup, and no damn lie, I think if I hadn't just installed all that stuff on my car, I would have traded right then and there >.>

As the clutch wears, they get stiffer. What happens is a lot of disc material deposits onto the input shaft and makes it more difficult for the release bearing to slide on it. When a new one is installed, the input shaft generally gets cleaned and new moly grease applied, so it feels light again after that. Both my '00 and '02 S2000s have very light/smooth clutches (100% OEM).
The other thing is, Honda added the stupid clutch delay valve on the AP2 cars so that they could have fewer warranty claims on broken driveline components (diff, axles, etc). Honda figured that if they made the engagement of the clutch become the weak point, they could claim it as a wear item rather than trying to prove owner-abuse in the case of a broken axle, differential, etc.

Mine and most of the 08-09 AP2's tend to have really light clutch pedals. Every AP1 Ive driven has had a noticeably stiffer clutch (but nothing outrageous). The early AP2s had the good in-between mix. Very mild differences between the years, but its enough that Im not surprised you can tell. I dont think its a different part number.

I don't know as far as difference goes, but on my MY08 I replaced the clutch at 8K, and the listing for the ACT clutch wasn't any different.
So physically (size) it's the same, maybe the material is different, or because of the valve that Ricky is talking about

AP1 with a new clutch is still stiffer than an 07+ with used clutch.
I prefer a little resistance in the clutch.
