Central Texas Group-what is it or where is it?
I posted this under the Austin Group II Drive. I'm starting a new topic so that the group drive can get underway.
Also, I had a question in here, if anybody has an answer. Thanks. GH
This community is styled as Central Texas. But, what area is that supposed to cover? You've two big cities, SA and Austin which are really very different from each other, in size, in economic makeup, in cultural makeup, etc. Why try so hard to make them one? Not to mention, there is at least a two maybe even three hour drive to get to events if you try to combine everybody from both cities.
An idea could be--each city have it's own events, and then from time to time, with plenty of advance notice, do an event for everyone in Central Texas. Then, don't be offended if there is not enough notice for an event in SA or in Austin. Or, give plenty of notice, then, if you happen to be passing through either city, make it to that function.
Also, on another note, there are more owners who might participate if they could find a subgroup within this big group where they might fit in better. There's nothing wrong with that.

The only difference that really matters in my opinion is distance. Economic/cultural differences, etc., who cares?
SA really isn't considered Central TX, but they've largely taken over this forum since the original Austinites on this forum have gone elsewhere. Y'all come out to our posted events, and you'll get invited to join the Austin mailing list which is where all the local action is.

Oh come on... San Antonio is as much 'Central Texas' as Austin is -- being that the two cities are only 60-80 miles from one another.
Anyways -- if there is a local event and you only want locals to show up, just post the city name at the beginning of the subject line for your event... for instance:
Austin: Happy Hour on Friday
Just something to try.

Ricky,
The San Antonio crew has NEVER been not invited to any of our events, and I doubt y'all ever would be.
Personally, I don't see what the big deal is about having both cities represented on one forum...though I will say that Austin is far more typically considered Central TX than San Antonio!

That's an Awesome idea....
Do you mean something like this:
"Austin Group Drive II, second in the series
Austin S2Kers happy hour Friday, happy hour
san antonio S2k's?, any?"
Why didn't anyone else think of that? Oh wait, I think these are threads from the Central Texas S2000 Owners.
Just sharing my voice in this forum...it seems like there are some S2000 owners that throw a trantum if they can't make it to a S2000 event. It's not the end of the world.
How and why did this thread start up...this a S2000 Family but why is there "Sibling Rivalry?" Chris is right, Austin is Central Texas but SO WHAT?!? Is it really necessary to start up another forum just to cover other "areas?" Before you know it...we'll have to start having people sit in the back of the bus!
We ALL have our own lives and schedules and if someone wants to hold an event... GREAT, if you CAN make it that's COOL, if you CAN'T make it then SO WHAT! No one is "required" to give a certain amount of notice. If it's posted publicly, it's pretty much an open invite...if you are uninvited...you'd know it..actually you wouldn't know because the post wouldn't be here and you wouldn't know anything about it.
Austinites have never turned S2000 or any other cars away...they are very cool to hang with.
When I finally became a member in 2001...SAN ANTONIO DID NOT, I REPEAT DID NOT HAVE ANYONE THAT WAS INTERESTED IN GROUP EVENTS OR GTG!! BIG DEAL...That did not stop me from driving up to Austin to meet the Austinites and was welcomed with open arms! I also would drive to Houston frequently and everyone was cool to meet and go racing with.
WITH ALL THESE NEGATIVE POST WARS AND DRAMA QUEENS, IT HAS TURNED ME OFF TO SHARE MY ENTHUSIASM WITH OTHER S2000 OWNERS IN SAN ANTONIO.
May has spoken.

Ricky,
Thanks for answering my question about the area of the forum, which I believe you said was all the cities in the radius around Austin and San Antonio. Thanks also for the suggestion about posting events. Thanks also very much for stepping forward to be our forum leader. I noticed that no one was our forum leader before you volunteered.
Thanks again,
Alex

Doubt it -- most posts are pretty clear as to where the meet is being organized... There just aren't many people in SA that know about this place (less technology-oriented people in SA as compared to Austin). It just goes with the demographics that we don't have as many S2k's on the streets and don't have as many users on the forums.
In response to May's post, it goes back to the previous paragraph I just wrote -- there aren't as many S2k's in San Antonio as there are in Austin and Houston. Look at the demographics of San Antonio. If you don't like it, then move to Austin or Houston and deal with the traffic associated with that decision. As for 'drama queens' and throwing tantrums, I don't see anybody on the forums acting as you describe. As a matter of fact, the last San Antonio event that you came to in October/November timeframe of last year, you seemed to have enjoyed yourself a lot:
"Awesome pictures! and yes we had a Blast!! Great job on everyone's organizing this event: Renae, Ricky, Henry--
I know there will be more to come!
I was telling Renae that we should get a thank you card and a "group" shot and send it to Gunn Honda for thanking them on their participation (and Ricky's poster) so that they will be more willing to "sponsor" our future events. Maybe have a mini meet. A Wednesday or Thursday. Any one interested let me know. I'll pm you my cell. The only thing is I wasn't a picture taker so if anyone has some cool shots of us that we could give to Gunn Honda.
May"
In the last 2.5 years that I have owned an S2k, the community of involved owners in San Antonio has increased dramatically. In 2001 there was not much interest because not many people knew about this place. Just because you had to go to Austin or all the way to Houston to have fun back then doesn't mean you have to now. We usually have something fun going on about once a month on average. It's attitudes like what you have shown in this response of yours are what cause the turnout to be low. Those that attend nearly *always* have fun, unless they are having some sort of a bad day of their own to begin with -- none of us have control over that, though.
At any rate, the bottom line I'm trying to make here is that there are plenty of things going on in both cities for everybody to have some fun. Attend the events you can make it to, don't attend the ones you can't. But the one thing you will find in common is that all of the groups should be open and inviting. I know the folks I have met in San Antonio have been very laid-back and easy-going at the events. We're all here to have fun and express our enthusiasm for the highest-all-around-quality sports car on the market that can be bought for under $50k.
