Default Austin Group Drive

Since there is little organization in the Austin S2K community, I was thinking that we should get together for a drive through the hills of Austin. I want to keep this drive to an hour maybe 2 tops because I know personally I haven't done any drives because they seem to be really long...so here is what I am thinking:

We meet up around 183 & MOPAC. This should be central place so that everyone only has to drive a few minutes to get to us.

We take MOPAC down to 2222 and then take 2222 up to 620 and go from there...we could go out on 620 to bee Caves, and take that back to Mopac or something like that; I don't know...I am open to discussion on the route.

Now the date...I'd like to do this sometime in late september or early october and I think early on a Saturday afternoon is good; this way no one has to get up early, and it shouldn't take the whole day...

Potentially we could meet somewhere for lunch for those who wanted to do so & then the rest could meet up with us at noon wherever we eat lunch.
When 11:30 Burker King, Depart noon
Where: The route will be Mopac south to 2222, 2222 to Bulluck Hollow Road
Go to "T" in Rd, turn left on FM 2769.
Make immediate left into park for photo shoot.
Out of park, turn left on FM 2769 to Volente Beach Club.
Turn right on Lime Creek Rd. to RR 1431, turn right.
1431 to Parmer Lane, Parmer Lane to Mopac and that'll be it; everyone can go whatever way they want from Parmer; I'll continue down Parmer to Mopac or I-35.

Date: 9/25
Rain Date: 10/2; see below

9/25 sounds good to me. Lunch before also sounds good. Since I am off most weekends, any Saturday is good for me.

How about continuing west past RR 620 on Volente Road and take Lime Creek Road north to RR 1431? It is an awesome twisty road along Lake Travis.
I would be interested in this on Sept 25th.

That sounds perfect actually...

OK the proposed route is start somewhere at 183 & mopac and take mopac to 2222 then take 2222 to RM 620, 620 to volente road, volente road to 1431, 1431 to 35 where it'll end...

now where are we going to meet up at?

I hear 9/25; anyone else have any other suggestions on the date? 9/25 is kewl with me...

The problem w/ shorter drives is that it means you're still on highly populated roads, which also means plenty of law enforcement. I still might be interested, but my next available weekend is the one after Halloween.

I know a lot of you Austin folks like to go "balls to the walls" fast on your group rides -- you can still have fun without driving at such a pace that it will land you in jail. If you keep it sane, law enforcement should not be an issue.

9/25 would be a good for me as well. By the way, I took 1431 last weekend. Man! what a road. I had so much fun, and my car was begging for more curves. But going after about 25 miles towards burnet (from 183), it becomes single lane. And watch out for live stocks on loose. Can't wait to meet other S2K owners.

I'm from Dallas but I would love to drive down to Austin and meet up with everyone. Just got my S2K 3 weeks ago so I need to take it on a long drive.

Ok all - I'm very happy with the responses from all of you and I'm really looking forward to meeting you.

The date will be 9.25 Those of us that want to grab a quick lunch will meet at the burger king at mopac and braker lane - its on the NW side of that intersection - at 11:30. If you don't want to grab a quick bite at BK, we'll meet at noon at that burger king's parking lot.

The route will be Mopac south to 2222, 2222 to 620, 620 to volente, volente to 1431, 1431 to Parmer Lane, Parmer Lane to Mopac and that'll be it; everyone can go whatever way they want from Parmer; I'll continue down Parmer to Mopac or I-35.

I look forward to meeting you all - does anyone want to either add anything or change the route at all? I know its through some parts of town that could be heavily traveled sometimes, but I also think it'll be central for everyone, not too long and all around just a fun cruise down some curvy roads and some good straights.

Looking forward to seeing you all there. Please reply if you are definate for this and I'll add you to the list.

Iamjosh: we'd welcome you if you wanted to join us. PM me if you need directions to the meet
