Default Who likes NASCAR?

Before you get offended, yes I am critisizing. I don't get it. If there is a fan here, chime in. If not, then I guess we all don't get it. Mostly I don't get the fan following. Why does some hick like JR over Castronevous? Surley not driving skill. For this to be one of the fastest growing sports in America, I just don't get it. Except for one race, or two(I admit a little ignorance here) they mostly turn left on banked corners. Wow! Plus as "stock cars", they are all suposed to be very similar. How does anyone have the advantage then? Boring!

All I'm saying is F1 is the Pinicale of racing in the World! Best drivers, more money, and they turn right. Why NASCAR? It's very U-S-A, but sometimes that is not enough.

If not F1, then GT class or GTR and the like. Again, they use tracks the turn left and right like we do.

Like baseball, NASCAR could be more interesting if the cut a lot out of it. Baseball plays WAY too many games to be interesting. NASCAR does WAY too many laps to be interesting. What if instead of 500 mile races, they ran sprints of 10 laps. It might be exciting then. Best of 5 ten lap races. I might watch that.

Please, explain the draw. Maybe Toyota will shake things up a bit!

I don't get it either - it is what it is though. No hatin' from me here - you like NASCAR? Fine w/me - I just don't. In the business I'm in everyone is into NASCAR - that and fishing... and golf. there I feel better now.

go straight, turn left, repeat. that just about sums it up.

as pete said, I can appreciate the speed and power, but come on ... add some variety rather than a big oval.

well so far sounds like i'm the only nascar fan here. What is it you're wanting me to explain?? i'm not hatin on you all either,.. i use to be in the same shoes you all were until i went to a race, i guess that's what hooked me. Before that i hated to watch races on TV, and sometimes they're still boring. But i'm still a fan.

True it make take more talent to handle a car through the twistys etc. However some F1 drivers are now migrating towards nascar. I would also think it takes some nerves of steel to drive side by side 3 wide into a turn at say 'dega, or daytona going 190mph+ with only inches sperating you from other drivers beside/infront/behind you. one false move and you're going to have a mess up on your hands. Where as you don't see that all that much in F1, the field is much more spread out.

I don't guess i can explain it, you either like it or you don't. I would suggest going to a race sometime though, the Atlanta races aren't all that far away distance wise. Good mid sized track, I sat at the back straight there, they pretty much allow you to go right up to the fence (crazy i know) and back there the cars fly by at like close to 180mph. Pretty crazy. Just give an actual race a try is all i can suggest. From the tv point of view it looks very boring. but it's actually a pretty competitive sport, alot more technology involved in it than one would think.

The F1 drivers that move to Nascar are usually taking too much heat in F1 for not performing or putting up good enough results. Open wheel racing also isn't like nascar where they can bump and still race, one touch of an open wheel car causes chaos, ala last years USGP where the first two corners took out over half the field, it was fun to watch but made the rest of the race more boring.
