Road Course in OAK RIDGE BEING BUILT! or ?
I just stumbled into this while looking for a place we could maybe have a "club day" race. Is this for real? Anyone know anything about it?
Thousand Suns International Road Course
The story of these legendary hills continues. Once rural farmland, a prophet saw the future of this beautiful valley "They will be building things, and there will be great noise and confusion and the earth will shake.'' Forty years later Dorothy Moneymaker's stubborn stand to save the family farm gave way to General Grove's audacious plan to end a war. The Manhattan Project seemed the only hope for bringing peace.
It is with great pride that Fast Visions of Tennessee brings a new chapter to the epic story of these historic grounds and the secret city that helped end World War II.
Thousand Suns International Road Course will be 3.7 miles of exciting Tennessee roads built to international roadracing standards (FIM/FIA). Preservation of history, safety and spectator's enjoyment are key considerations throughout the design phase and will provide an unparalleled experience in American roadracing. Charging down the 4,440 foot "Avenues" at over 200 mph. Then winding through the last turns of "Moneymaker"... looking for the finish line. This will be a story of history and destiny.
Oak Ridge and world championship motorsports will produce legendary results.
34 Turns (17L/17R)
4,440' back stretch
2,800' front stretch
Spacious run-off
Two pit areas (1820'/1610')
Large paddock - 40 Haulers w/awning
Versatile track configurations
Rail access to paddock and parking
Excellent viewing
Private owner garages
Large attendance capacity
Scenic background
"The 34 turn (17L/17R) 3.7 mile road course will surround the museum and elevated spectator peninsula, providing an incredible view of racing action. The front stretch is 2700' while the back stretch will be a heart pounding 4,440'. The primary hot pit is 1820 feet with a secondary pit on the back stretch that is 1610 feet. Run-off area has been maximized to offer a fast, but safe racing experience. Short courses for schools, track days and club events will be available. Initial paddock area capacity will allow up to 48 - 75 foot haulers with awnings. Easy camping access and vendor sites"
I sure hope this gets built! It would be so awesome! Thoughts?

First I've heard of it. Hope it happens! We could certainly use something like that in this area. They will save a bundle on lighting costs at night also - the luminescence from decades of radiation exposure should make it bright enough to see pretty good.

Checked out the link, article there from '06 stating that money was his biggest problem. However, it also says it would take till '08 to finish demolishing k25 so maybe they'll start on it this year?
