They can take a urine sample now and tell if you have been drinking. I worked at a place that fired a guy and he got drunk as all get out the night before but he was fine the next day. He honestly stopped drinking at around 9pm and work started at 7am.

While I didn't make sup'v/manager at that job, I was still a lead and got to ask the dude that came to give them a few questions about this and that. One of the main things he told me that I thought was odd was that if you drink a glass of wine, shot or beer, it was something unreal like 7 hours later they could detect it in your urine. If you drink a sixxer, it was just over 20 hours it would stay in your system... The reason that dude got busted was because he drank a Dr. Pepper or Coke really quick, burped and it smelled like alcohol. His lead was a total A. Hat and I think he took it to far.
