Driving the Dragon? Need to blow off steam
Howdy (that's "Hi" in Texan)
I'm in Chattanooga for the next few weeks due to a major family tragedy and have been buried in estate and legal matters for most of the past few days. My husband is coming into town tomorrow to help out and I'm looking for something for us to do to take a break and destress some this weekend. Can anyone tell me how far it is from South Chattanooga to the Dragon and is it worth it to drive it on a Saturday afternoon (not sure about traffic volume.) We don't have too much time to invest in it, but I'd really like to take the opportunity to hit it at least once in the S while we're both here. We don't have many hills (and no twisties) in the Dallas area, so I'm dying to give it a run. Heck, I might even let the hubby drive on he way back. Maybe.
Thoughts?

It's about two and a half hours from Chattanooga to dragon country.
Unless you want to make a day of it you might be better off to just head east to say - Murphy, NC on US 64/74.
Check google maps for local twisties.

The Dragon was the best time I've ever had in my S2000...just did it for the first time 2 weeks ago..make sure you have solid brakes and a solid set of tires..also check out the Cherohala Skyway...I think it's 143 West just at the mouth of the Dragon where it meets rt. 28 ( hellbender 28 )..and I'm sure there is plenty of nice roads that I didn't hit. The entire area is just a maven of beauty and gorgeous roads.

Wow, thank you everyone!
Well, things here in TN were more considerably more messed up than I expected, so haven't had a break to give it a shot yet. I just discovered that a good friend of mine lives near Knoxville, about 10 minutes from the Dragon, so I'll probably pick a day to stay at his house for the night then start out on the drive early in the morning sometime in the next few weeks. Any suggestions for good days? I'm thinking that late morning/early afternoon on a Monday might have less traffic than the weekend? Unfortunately it looks like I'll be going solo as the hubby wasn't able to get any more time off. So for him, but more drive time for me.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Finally made it up there on Monday and was able to take a couple of drives on Tuesday and Wednesday. Had a BLAST even though I was by myself.
Got some video and there are some great photos out there. Here's the album from Killboy. (Should be more tomorrow, so I'm going to wait before I purchase anything.)

Thanks again!
