Finally figured out what that mystery noise was
I have been chasing a noise in my car for a few weeks now and I finally figured out what it was.........................Right Rear Wheel Bearing!
A new Wheel Bearing and Wheel Hub were installed today and she is as good as new.
I had the work done at Honda Cars of Bradenton
I know what you are thinking why go to the dealer? Well first I wasn't positive the wheel bearing was the problem so there was still some element of trouble shooting going on. It had been suggested it was a brake caliper dragging, a bent halfshaft, and even a bad tire.
As it turns out it was the wheel bearing and I was told by people who know that Honda Cars of Bradenton is THE place to go because of a tech they have there who specializes in S2K's and they were right.
The Tech's name is BJ Hutson and he is very knowledgeable about the S. BJ did a superb job. He treated the car as if it was his own, taking very good care of my baby.
I highly recommend BJ for any work you need done!
I have my old hub and bearing and I will try and post a pic later. BJ said it doesn't see that many bearing replacements for the S but mine was one of the worst he has seen. We checked the left rear and it had a little play in it but he cleaned it up, greased it and installed a new axle nut torqued on properly and it tightened up. Let's hope it stays that way and no damage was done. Only time will tell.

It sounded like something dragging (metal on metal) but it went with the rotation of the wheel you could only hear it at low speeds when you were slowing down.
At first it would take 15 or 20 miles of driving before you could hear it, in the end it was immediate when you got in the car, no need to warm it up or get any heat in it.
Honda issued a technical service bulletin to advise that they did not torque the rear axle nuts to the proper torque from the factory and they should be retorqued. When I asked the service advisor he said the usual stuff, it wasn't a recall, the car is 9 years old, etc.
I am going to contact Honda to see if i can at least be compensated for the parts. From my perspective this is a direct cause and effect issue and while they list it as a "safety item" and chose not to do a recall it seems clear to me that if they admit they didn't torque a nut down properly that holds the wheel hub assembly together and the result is the wheel bearing becomes loose then that is not my fault.
I am also puzzled as to why my regular Honda service dealer where I have all my fluids changed regularly wouldn't have at the very least mentioned it. Hell even offer to do it and charge me.

Seriously once we found the play in the RR wheel that pretty much confirmed that it was the wheel bearing for me. You also sent me to HCof Bradenton,
You also listened to me whine for the better part of 2 weeks
Thanks for all you assistance.
BTW when I first pulled into the service bay at Honda Cars of Bradenton the service advisor immediatley said it was a brake problem, once we got BJ to listen to it and I told him LHT did the brakes he ruled it out right away.
