A Toronto woman who had her car impounded under the province's street racing law says the Ontario Provincial Police spotter plane misidentified a speeding car, which led to seizure of the wrong vehicle.

Under Ontario's street racing law, anyone clocked going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit risks having their car impounded on the spot and could even go to jail.

But Laurie Betts says in this case the OPP's airborne surveillance plane made a mistake and confused her car with someone else's.

The incident happened on May 15, the Friday before the Victoria Day weekend.

This is bloody crazy. I don't doubt that mistakes like this can be made. How reliable could this be if they can't distinguish between a Corolla and Infinity? how confident could they be that the pilot was seeing the 500 meter markers accurately?

100% positive? That's far fetched given the parameters.

Apparently stop watches are high tech. $100,000 plane... 3x $60,000 salaries and yet no $150-2000~ digital camera. Yup, digital cameras... a new technology that isn't readily available to us in this new age.

If it was an AE86 Corolla with a 2JZ swap she's guilty as hell.

^ haha the other thing is are the pilots even cops or just hillbillys with pilot licences? They could be smoking a joint up there or doing whatever they please.."Oh look a black car going fast hey officer 548 pull over that one, yeah thats good enough"

I got pulled over by this aircraft crap last summer. I almost got my S taken away. I was doing 144. Funny thing is im pretty good with cops and spotted the patrol car a mile away. I was doing the speed limit well before he could even see me as he came roaring on the highway from an on ramp expecting me to fly past. I was like what did I do wrong? And hes like see that airplane up there he clocked you at 144. And im like can I see some proof or a printout? And he goes nope there is none heres your ticket. Its BS

BTW deanob do you still want that A/C compressor?

hahaha good point, what a waste of money. Court, resources used to stop, the individuals time..etc. Should invest in a $$$ camera system (max 10k per set?) or radar.

That's a good story...I'm going to use the same excuse if I ever get pulled over.
