Default Watkins Glen Event 2013 Summary

The 2013 Watkins Glen event is now officially over. It was a great day in a picturesque region with great people, great cars, fun roads, one of the best tracks in N. America , and great food. I only took a few pics, but there should be lots of additional pis and vids to follow by others I hope.

This was a long day but we got to drive some great roads, we had lunch and dinner at two different wineries, with some great beer at a brewery. The Southern Ontario and NY State group were awesome, lots of females too !. It was great meeting everyone. We left home at 6 am, and the last of us finished the day at 9:30 pm with dinner on an outdoor patio at a winery on the shore of Seneca lake.

Watkins Glen International Raceway gave the S2000 club a personal visit and set of lapping at their great facility, we were given the entire track to ourselves - no outsiders were allowed lol. The awesome Porsche in the pics belongs to Neil former S2000 owner. The Police of NY State are among the friendliest I've ever met. .

Thanks Martin and Darren, it was really great having fellow Canadians participating in this event, that was enough satisfaction for me. I truly understand how taxing this event can be in terms of travel time, costs, and mileage on the cars but I can't think of a better way of spending some free time. I hope it wasn't too hard on the ladies, I appreciate their patience throughout the day and my wife enjoyed meeting everyone.

This morning we wanted to get out early and try to beat the wet weather. We went by one of the falls in Montour Falls and I managed to get a shot of Stone Bridge on the historic track route , it was early enough that there wasn't any traffic in the area.

Thanks Joey for organizing this event. It was an awesome experience taking the S onto Watkins Glen track as well as meeting new people from the S2KI community.

Hi Josh, I hope you found your way home well, I know it made for a long day, but you certainly got lots of top down driving in on this trip . I'm really glad you were able to get this meet under your belt, your car looked and sounded great as usual

I'm sorry we had to cut the historic road course out of the event due to a delay caused by traffic congestion in downtown Watkins Glen in late afternoon, that forced us to go straight to the track from the brewery. In exchange we did get the entire track exclusively to the S2000 group, they almost never do that for anyone. We also got to blow some speeds which they normally keep more reserved when the laps are open to the general public. I'm pretty sure we hit well over 80 mph over many areas of the track, and we were able to take the corners at max speed for the most part. That was an awesome run.
