I have the second gear grind. I cant recreate the problem for a mechanic because it is sporadic in nature, so they don't want to fix it. The whole situation with Honda not wanting to fix the many problems on my car makes me want to sell it. I don't have the time to keep going to the dealership and trying to get my car fixed.
I'm in a tough situation... I love my car but this is really driving me crazy. I'm thinking of going BMW if I cant this work done. they have way better service.

has anyone had the 2nd gear grind fixed without recreating the prob for the mechanic?

I get a grind sometimes coming down from 3rd. Is that consistent with your grind, or do you get it upshifting?

Its never happend on an up shift.
Furthermore, the cold weather seems to have a good affect on the tranny. I haven't heard it grind in like a month.

ps it's a problem that occurs anywhere in the rev band.

I never had a grind in my car....Only the occasional when the tranny is cold....but who powershifts when the car is cold??

As for normal operating temps never a grind....Just make sure you always push the clutch down all the way.

I just went in to Newmarket Honda, with all the TSB's and said I want all this fixed on my car before April when my warranty expires.

They said, no problem, can you wait for a couple months untill we move to our new place?

I said yes, they said great, we'll order the parts first thing after the move..

Simple as that.

the second gear grind is caused from the second gear synchro being worn. it usually happens at higher rpm's, and is usually corrected by a slower shift to second. Rather than banging it in, shift from 1st to neutral for a moment longer than usual, and then engage the second.

Regarding the mechanics refusal to fix the car.... The Ontario government that regulates mechanics and dealers (OMVIC) comes down heavily on mechanics and dealers for malpractice. If they fix a problem that isn't in their eyes broken, they can be liable. It sounds stupid, but if the car is in warranty, why wouldn't they WANT to fix it to get rid of you. They would if they could, but Honda Corporate is always breathing down their necks...

I think I'm going to have to start dealing with another dealer.
Can you let me update me the next time you go in on what they say or fix for you. I have a whole bunch of things that need to be adressed.
