Ok,
more thinking...
even with the CAI, the tubes will be exposed to the heat under the hood.
Are there any heat resistant paint / materials that we can spray onto the say, the AEM CAI tubes to reduce the heat travelling in the intake tubes?
Seriously, wrap the whole damn CAI with heat resistant material will rock a$$.

if you check AEM's tube, it has some kinda material used to prevent the tube to heat soak. and i think that material is AEM copyright. but i am not sure about this, it was 2 years ago.
yes affa, get the carbon fiber heat shield but i cant find anyone selling them anymore. it sits between the engine and the stock air box, replacing that plastic shield.

It's actually pretty amazing how well the heat shield works. After driving around there is a BIG difference between the teperature on the engine side of the shield and the temp of the air around the intake... Plus it looks cool!

Darren: Technical answer.
Warm air takes up more room. So you can't fit as much fuel and air in the cylander = less power.
Cold air is more condensed so it takes up less room which means you can fit more air in the same amount of space. More air needs more fuel as well. Botom line: More air + more fuel = bigger bang = more power.
Heat soak doesn't hurt the engine. Just gives you less power.
