Thinking about a clown shoe - anyone ever driven one?
Hey all,
All this BMW talk has got me itching for one again. However, there's nothing in their current lineup that appeals to me. The M3 is just a heavy pig as far as I'm concerned.
So I'm kind of kicking around the idea of an MCoupe. I would be going for a 2002 model with the uprated 315hp engine. I've already checked with Transport Canada and can import one from the States if need be.
However, I'm just wondering if anyone has ever driven one of these cars? They are more archaic in their design than the S2000 (5 speed, trailing arm suspension, no HID's), but everytime I see one on the street my jaw drops.
I wouldn't be doing this until next spring. Don't want to part with the S just yet.
Any thoughts?

Have you driven the M3? I didn't find it a heavy pig at all. I didn't find the C32 heavy either per se.
You should talk to Mike's buddy Joe, he can get german spec etc.
And you go James! heh

Vince,
I mean that I want a car light, small and nimble like the S2000. The MCoupe weighs about 2950lb, the M3 is much bigger and weighs over 3200lb.
Plus it's easy to pull over 100lb off the MCoupe with a lightweight hood and racing seats.
The MCoupe is faster than the M3, too. Regularly pulling off high 12's in the 1/4, whereas the M3 is low 13's. (Not that I care about drag racing, just comparing their acceleration.)

it equals an s2000 in the "exclusivity" field.. a rare specimen on the road. I like that. I don't have personal knowledge of per say, but I remember it getting a fantastic review from Graeme Fletcher's Motoring 2002 show which sparked my attention back then.

I think it's actually rarer than an S2000. I see an S2000 maybe every week or two (more if I open my garage ), but I see an MCoupe maybe once a month if I'm lucky.
Anyways, I'm thinking about it for the future. Everytime I see one it sparks my interest - looks so much better in person than any picture.

I've only seen an M Coupe once in my life. Its an "interesting" vehicle to say the very least.
I wonder if they'll make the Z4 in an M Coupe version as well...

Personally I would put that car into the "I would love to drive one, not own one" category.
Its just too FUGLY to me to put in my garage, although I absolutely agree that it is probably one of the finest performance cars out there. Id love to boot around in one though!

i've driven one at length (a couple of times, a few hours each time)....
rob, one mod.....i repeat......one mod.......is all you need.
the one i drove had a short throw shifter in it by Motronix in woodbridge (i used to get my M5's serviced by them and their STS was in my M5's as well).
it totally transforms the car (any M car, for that matter).....you'll "know" what i mean if you've ever driven one.....
you'll walk away from it thinking, "man, if that car only had shorter throws....."
they're cheap too - a couple hundred installed....
