I was looking at winter tires... seems like either Mich Alpine or Bridgestone Blizzak are the best match for our ride...
however, there are two types of Blizzak... LM-22 and WS-50
they have very distinctive tread pattern... wonder if anyone knows the difference between these two...

IMO lm-22's are for sport cars , and are made for travelling at higher speeds.
The WS-50 offers more tread for deep snow traction. I think also, the ws-50 someone once told me that they were intended for front wheel drive cars ?
I would also recommend Nokia Hakkapeliita as well.. they have more longevity

The difference is speed rating and tread. WS-50 is a hardcore snow tire with a lower speed rating whereas the LM-22 is "performance winter tire".
I use the WS-50 on my Accord but can't imagine it on the S2k cause it's too soft. You'd have to decide for yourself, If you think you need the WS-50 then maybe you should look into a beater instead cause the S will handle like an SUV.

I like my LM 22s. What others have said is consitent with my experiences. I bet the WS50 is a better SNOW tire, but on the very worst of days, my car stays in the garage, snows or not (I cant get out of my unplowed back laneway).

i have blizzak MZ-01's (now discountinued)......now THOSE are soft.....but, they'll plow through anything - and have.
they're not really stable beyond 160-170....car feels very squirrely.....but in winter, dry or not, i seldom (maybe a few times) hit those speeds.
i've been able to drive my car everyday for the past 3 winters....so that is an example of their abilities.
and actually, i don't think they are "speed" rated AT ALL - and if they are, it wouldn't be substantial....
