Default Someone please explain Stance to me

I'm not hating, I just have actual questions.

Stance is a looks thing right? Is it more about extremely low ride height or more about the camber angle? Both? Is the idea to tuck the wheel in the fender while getting the wheels to stick out at the same time?

Personally, as you can probably tell, I don't see the appeal especially considering all the mods that go into getting that look and the uneven tires. If it makes people happy then great (as long as it is safe) but is there something else I am missing?

Sorry for the dumb questions but I was just wondering.

I think it's the same as "sagging" so, they're both stupid...

The "stance" your referring to is fitting big wide wheels with skinny stretched tires to fit on a car that they probably shouldn't fit on. For example, Flaring and pulling fenders, excessive negative camber, 205 tires on a 9.5 wheel, low or negative offset... Too each their own. I've stanced out a couple cars, they were both volkswagens so pretty shitty handling to begin with an pretty slow so basically the cars were useless so lots of low and big wheels looked good, but te second time I realized how stupid I was because I was bottoming out on flat roads and turning the corner.

I'd love to see a head to head race around a track between a "stanced" S2000 and a "normal" S2000 , the difference would surely convince people to never modify a car in that manner.

Idealistic.

Clearly not in it for the performance benefits.

You never know what goes through the minds of some people. Too many people in the import world associate slammed rides with improved handling.

I am surprised we haven't seen some tires failing on cars like that, most would agree it is a dangerous practice to stretch tires.

Ok, I'm going to see if I understand now

Stance is:

- done to achieve a certain look

- not a performance mod

- a part of a certain urban lifestyle

- lowering your car to the point where the wheel is inside the fender

- extreme camber angles to aid in wheel clearance and produce an extreme look

- willingly done to cars, even at the cost of: local bylaw compliance, a poor ride, uneven tire wear, rim damage, fender damage, improper alignment, suspension stress, possible catastrophic suspension failure, poor gas millage, tire replacement costs and reduced vehicle value

Sound about right?

One thing I notice is how hard it is to buy high offset wheels lately. Every time someone is selling wheels, they are like +22 or something...

Again, if stance is your thing, great. Just make sure your suspension is tight and safe. No mercy for people who mod their cars unsafely.

It's literally a stupid fad done by 16-20 year olds. It's 100% aesthetics and there is nothing to gained by it except other dudes leg humping you and asking "bro, whats your setup".

They've also blown the word "stance" out of proportion, because a car can have good stance but not be "hellaflush".

To me, good stance is meaty tires on wide rims that fit relatively well inside the fenders.

This is "hellaflush"
