Nope. Nice idea though...
This thing just plain does not lock up the entire bed.
The only thing that locks in the bed is the cargo door in the bed. The gate does not lock.

But in all honesty, the roads in Europe are more demanding than they are here, and the tow vehicles are much smaller, and they have no problems. You see stuff like Mitsubishi Pajeros and VW Toureags towing cars on dual axle trailers over there.
Dude, you are killin' me today...

The Touareg comes with a 310 hp V8 and it has a towing capacity of 7,716 pounds - you cannot compare that to a Ridgeline.

maybe it's one those "what's the point" deals?

unless the bed is as secure as a door, they thought why bother....maybe it would actually deter thieves?

Honda did a great job making a nice folding tonneau cover that appears to be for the most part water tight. Therefore the ramifications is they want you to use the truck bed.

Say for example Nimesh you go shopping with the wife and buy one of your kids a big toy that does not fit into the trunk/cargo area. You are going to feel perfectly comfortable going shopping and leaving the Ridgeline in the parking lot with no way to lock/secure the new expensive toy you just bought your kid?

The point is, most people who buy a truck want to put stuf in the bed, and many of those people need to lock it up so some ass does not steal it.

Yes, but it has a shorter wheelbase than the Ridgeline and weighs about the same.

So your theory on vehicle mass and length goes flying out the window in this case.

i don't agree with it, but again, i'm not a truck user, so i wouldn't know what "truck-bed" protocol is.

all i'm saying is that if *most* trucks that have tonneau covers, that do not lock *properly/as securely* as a say the door, then i can see honda not thinking much about it.....

i've seen some tonneau covers that look like they could be "jimmied" with a soup spoon....very poor security aspects.

if security is a big issue - that could be the reason why they made the rear seats fold up the way the did....you can put some decent cargo back there.

THe fact that the flatbed doesn't lock would not stop me from buying this truck - which I may in fact do in the fall.

It is not just one characteristic that makes the difference, wheelbase is but one of them. The key here is that it was built to handle 54% more towing capacity than the Ridgeline, as much more as the weight of an S2000...

I have no intention of making this a "beat up on the Ridgeline" thread; I like the damn things, it is just they have some characteristics that I don't feel fit my needs.
