From today's news, be very careful when you are getting under your car:

Guelph MercuryBy Mercury staffPUSLINCH — One man is dead after his car fell on him Wednesday while it was up on jacks at his home in Puslinch.
Police arrived just after 11:30 a.m. at a residence on Concession 4 to find a male resident trapped under his car, a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police news release states.

An investigation determined that the car had been up on jacks when it fell, crushing him underneath.

That's very sad RIP
It's always best to put the car up on four jack stands and give it a good shake before going under. And to visually inspect the jack stands for cracks or bends before each use. I usually leave the jack itself underneath in addition to the wheels or a couple extra stands just incase. One can never be too safe.

I like to go overboard with support - 4 jackstands at lift points, plus 1-2 jacks or jackstands at center front and rear depending where I'm working under the car, wheels under rockers if center points not used.

Sucks to hear.
Always up on 4 jack stands + shake. Wheeels go under as well and I leave the jack itself slightly lowered as a failsafe too just in case.

not sure if it's safer to work under 4 jack stands vs 2. I don't see the logic, in fact I see more logic in running 2 stands (plus leaving the jack under as a safety net) and make sure the tires have a bump stop.
