I'm not going to argue with Eric cause he makes some good points there, but I'd be more likely to stick with a PC because I am just more comfortable with them.

If I were given a Mac I'd probably get used to it both hardware and software-wise, but for now I'd stick with PC.

With the Dual-boot abilities, and the hardware interfaces becoming the same (USB, Firewire, etc.) the gap between the two platforms with becoming smaller and smaller.

In 10 years I could possibly be a Mac-head.

Buy the cheapest decent laptop that can last you two years, at which point you throw it out and replace it with a better one. There is no point in dropping $2k on a laptop that'll become obsolete the moment you take it out of the box. I paid $899 for a Compaq mini-notebook a year ago. Last week they were blowing it out at US Thanksgiving door-crasher sales for $299.

get a mac... i own 3 now.. and won't be buying any more PCs... sadly with intel chips.. they do outdate faster... but the thing with mac os is that every upgrade is actually better than the last ON THE SAME MACHINE... unlike PC where the a new version of OS drains more resources that forces you to buy a newer one just so your computer would work as fast as before.

i used to work at dell.

there are only 5 LCD manufacturers in the world no matter who tells you.

Samsung, LG philips, Sharp, China Co. 1 and China Co. 2

Dell is the best bang for the buck no matter what. You can easily buy an Ultrasharp 19" for under 270.

If you need a better deal shoot me and an email and ill connect you to someone at dell.

Rich,

Is Dell filled with Samsung parts? I've always been very impressed with Samsungs but they are pricey.

i can't really say how many of the monitors or notebook lcds are samsungs but a big portion of our LCDs are samsungs.

Dell utilizes what is best for price and QTY at the specific moment they build the product so its really hard to say

but for the most part we use LG and Samsung.
