Recommend areas of Toronto to live in
I'm considering moving out to Toronto for awhile and would like some suggestions on areas to live in. I brought up a Yahoo search for Toronto Real Estate and came back with this:
http://www.torontorealestateboard.com/menu...u/framesrch.htm
According to this picture and the regions labeled in it, where should I be looking for a place to live? I'd like to live in a pretty nice part of town but I definitely don't want the uber-rich, upper class area.
Do any of you locals have links you could provide me with to look up real estate in that area? Maybe local paper classifieds and/or the major paper's classifieds? Perhaps a link to a Toronto area real estate locator?

The link you have is for the Toronto area real estate locator.
Can you give us more information on where your going to work etc as communting is a major pita here.
Off the top of my head...stay way from the east (Scarborough).

Thanks for the reply matrix.
I'm fortunately in the position right now where I don't necessarilly have to work...investments in the past have paid off nicely; however, I do plan on finding something to keep my occupied should I move out there.
I guess I'm kind of looking for something near the "artsy/natural" part of town, assuming one exists. In other words, the area that caters to people looking for nature, organic foods and/or the "hippie" laid back attitude. I'd like to be centralized enough to where I could ride my bike to and from places and mainly have to rely on motorized transportation for groceries and trips over 5 miles.
Does anything that you know of fit this criteria?

I live in the Beaches and its totally dynamite.
Perfect, like IDEAL, for a family.
Close (5min) drive to downtown.
Right on the water.
Seriously, its excellent.
The only bad thing is public transport, should you want to take it, sucks compared to most parts of the city.
Queen St in the Beach was just voted best "Main" street in Ontario. Tons of coffee shops, restaurants, parks,...small town feel minutes from downtown.
I cannot tell you how much I love living there. BUT you need a place with parking if you have a vehicle - street parking is very tough - especially in the summer.

Yonge and Finch is NOT good for what you are looking for.
I would give you these to look up:
Beaches (natural / laid back)
Annex (closer to downtown/university)
Queen Street West (artsy but more fringe)
King Street West (up and coming)
There are a lot of great neighborhoods in Toronto, it really depens on budget, whether or not you want a house or condo, etc.
