Default Quick question - Drive shaft

Hey guys,

I took the wifes CRV in and Honda says the right front driveshaft is leaking from the bearing. The whole driveshaft is $400 but the bearing alone is $40. They recommend replacing the whole shaft but what I am wondering is, is it possible to replace the just the bearing?

It is the assembly in the top right of this pic. Thanks in advance.

I've pressed bearing out of idlers and replaced them- one of my favourite garage tools is my press. The bearing had to get there some how, so why not press out/press in? I'd say it looks completely doable- worse case is you have to buy a whole new $400 unit.

I bought a few honda shafts from Napa, refub'd, should be much less than Honda new. I never had any issue with them, install is pretty easy as long as the part is correct.

Makes sense. If I can find a quality refurb or replacement, it's probably easier than trying to press bearings. It really is a replace industry. I'll see if I can get the old shaft sent in for a core refund so it can be used again. Thanks guys.

I think Napa sells new and refurb'd for almost the same price depending on which one you need, and they have 10 percent off right now.

Check Rockauto.com A quick search and there are a couple for around $100 shipped. I guessed on the year of your car though. I searched 2007-2011 models.
I buy lots of parts from them for my cars and customer cars. Prices are difficult to match anywhere local. And they just show up at my door.

Love the Rock Auto. I use it for oil filters, spark plugs, belts, etc... Can't beat there prices.
