Default Powder coating wheels

Just wondering what everyone thinks about powder coating wheels.

For those who have had it done, do they get out curb rash before they do it or just sand blast and coat?

How much roughly would it cost?

Any shops around the GTA to recommend?

Thanks guys.

(I just picked up a set of EP3 type R rims that are in decent but not great shape)

I powdercoated my ap1 rims. My rims had curb rash. What you should do is get a dremmel tool with a metal grinder bit and you smooth over the curb rash, when done over a wider section it smooths out nicely. Say you have curb rash over 1-2 inches, then you smooth out 4-5 inches in that area so it looks very smooth and blends in over the entire area when done. You don't care about the look of the repair as long as it is smooth. Once powdercoated you won't notice the repair. The aluminum wheels are easy to grind smooth with a dremmel tool and metal grinding bits. I did some repairs to all four wheels and they turned out perfectly smooth and unnoticeable when painted.

Sorry I don't know of any Toronto based shops, there has been some threads in the past of some shops. I think I paid $300 for four wheels, but they bead blasted all of the rims, de-gassed the metal rims for durability, and powder paint followed by powdered clear. It was very durable, best way to paint them IMO. good luck.

I just got my AP2V1's fixed and painted. The shop did good work but I don't think I'd recommend them. I can write up my experience later. I'm in jersey now and we're just leaving for Honda Day. Giggity.

Crap, I just noticed one of them has a bend. I don't know how I missed that when I was buying them.
