Just keep driving your car to work., whats to worry about?
You park in front of a video security camera right? Just take one more of them off the streets when they steal it. Pager sensor alarm install asap since he thinks you don't have one - ie. touching hood of car etc...

There's a good chance that guy wasn't a thief. He likely sold the picture of your car and the serial number to an internet scammer, or he might be the scammer himself. They don't intend on selling your car, they only want to sell the likeness of your car.
Cover your VIN number and place a sheet of paper on the dashboard that reads "smile you're on camera" every day you park the car at work. Get it laminated for long term daily use.
