Possible Relocation to Montreal
My wife is currently doing a 2 years medical fellowship in Montreal (we are both Californians). I still have a job in California and commute once per month to Montreal. Anyway, I am thinking about relocating myself to Montreal, maybe this coming summer. I just have a general question about bringing vehicles into Canada.
Two cars I have now are the S and a 04 EVO RS. Between the two, it makew more sense for me to bring the EVO - weather. I am not sure why Mitsubishi doesn't sell any EVO models in Canada (they are not on their website and I haven't seem any EVO on all my visits). My question is, can I legally drive the EVO in Canada?
Thanks for your inputs.

Me thinks crash standards is why there are very little Evo's in Canada. I heard a rumour last year that it was because of the rear bumper didn't meet to Canadian Crash standards that it wasn't allowed to be sold in Canada. You may want to check into that!

Basically what Hapa said. Canadian bumper standards must withstand a marginally higher speed than in the US. Apparhently the EVO can't pass it, thus I don't think you'll be able to register your Mitsu here.
That kind of makes your decision easy.

It might be different since you are importing the car as the owner. If you have owned it for more than 6 months things are a little different. If we were to buy one, we can't import it, but I believe you have different rules since you are moving countries.

Keep an address in California and keep it registered there...I did that for a couple of years and it worked out fine.
Mind you I could have imported the vechicle, I just wasn't sure if I was going back or not.

You will also have to get daytime running lights installed, my aunt came from New Jersey and they made her add a couple things to the car so that she could license it here.

Thanks for all your replies. Looks like I can probably keep my California plate and drive it. I will ask my wife to check about registering it as a foreign worker. Hopefully the Montreal motor vehicle department is more efficient than the ones in California.
