Possible Group Buy:Carbotech Brake Pads
Hi guys, I need a new set of front and rear track pads and after reading through the forum I've decided to go with Carbotech XP10/XP8 (10s in the front, 8s in the rear).
Per Carbotechs website it looks to be $144 for the rear, and $171 for the front. So $315 USD for a full set. Then add taxes, duty, shipping, etc. (their prices are on their website)
I noticed on S2kCA that someone was able to get 20% off on a group buy.
I definately need to order some for the May 29th track day. Any1 else wanna get in on this? Even if we don't have enough for a group buy we can atleast split broker/shipping fees.
If enough are interested, I'll contact them about a group buy. (based on the s2kca info, they needed 16-20 sets to make the group buy possible)
In order for us to get our parts by the May 29th date, we'll make the order cut off date by Sunday, May 3rd 2009.
Here is a breakdown of the most common pads:
Carbotech Bobcat (1521) = Street Performance, not recommended for track
Carbotech XP8 (1108) = Track pads, not recommended for street
Carbotech xp10 = more serious track pads
Carbotech xp12 = even more serious track pads, etc.
Please respond with the following info
Interested in:
front: (type)
rear (type)
and how you plan on paying (you cover paypal fee's)
In on the purchase:
1) Canadiankid
2)
3)
4)
5)
Again, I'm definately buying these pads, so even if we just get 2 or three people we'll atleast be able to split shipping & save some cash. Afterwards, maybe we can even get together for a BBQ and change the pads together.

The XP series pads are not recommended for the street. Although I did put a street option (BOBCAT pads) I would just buy stock OEM pads for the street.
Carbotech XP pads are track only!! In fact, per Carbotech you can't even get the pads broken in, on the street.
They squeel until warmed up, and they would never warm up on the street.
I don't have personal use on these pads but seem to be the best per the Search Function.
In Summary I found:
Hawk Blues: Great pad, but the dust eats rotors and rims if left for a long time.
All other Hawk series (HPs) are not "good enough" for the track.
EBC: All EBC products suck (don't know why, but thats what I read)
Porterfield R4's... next best pad, but not as good initial bite as the Carbotechs...
Cobalt Spec VR: Good pad, but being discontinued.
Axxis Ultimates: Good for the rear, but very high dust pad and doesn't last as long as people would like.
Again, I don't have personal use on any of these pads rather, just sharing what I've noted throughout my research.
Here is one recent thread on the topic (of many): https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=693153

Great post. I've heard good things about the EBC greens for street and mild track setups and apparently the cobalts eat rotors...

XP10s are LOUD on the street. Like people are looking at you funny loud.
Carbotechs also require a bed in period BTW.

there is nothing wrong with either pad. try both and see which one you prefer. honda tech road racing forum is also an OK resource if you want more first hand feedback from trackies (you decide what you want to believe). i not sure who told you HT-10s fade after 3 laps...not in my experience. i have used both ht10s and xp10s.

I ran the hawk ferro carbon pads for a while after 2 track day there were insanely loud on the street, but buddy and his uncle both ran the same pads but no squeeking...I just think thats because I'm running cross drilled and slotted rotors, they ran regular rotors and had no prolem. pads worked great on the track though, may be trying Hawk blues this summer though.
