paint care
Hey ,
Last year I used the Wolfgang car care products for the first time. They are awesome and work best with my porter cable polisher.
For years I used Zaino but I think there has been a subtle change in their product. I've noticed my last bottle of Z2 has oil separation after sitting for several months.
So this time I used the Wolfgang finishing glaze 3.0 for the light swirl marks. It's just aggressive enough to clean up the visual spider marks which are all I really had. Mostly from over aggressive removal of Zaino.
Next I used the Wolfgang Deep Gloss paint sealant 3.0. This gives the surface that ultra, low friction, fresh wax feel and a slight wet look.
My car is original paint and will be 15 years old this year. The previous owner detailed cars for a living but I think he was just too aggressive with the polishing. I'm pretty sure my clear coat is just about gone as I see red paint on the polishing heads; especially from the plastic body panels like the side view mirrors.
My question for those of you aficionados out there is: Will adding a wax on top of the deep gloss paint sealant make any visual or physical difference to the paint surface? It's already pretty slick and I don't drive the car in the rain.

They often say adding a coat of wax on top of the sealant adds additional depth to the finish. Also, it's one more layer of protection against the elements.
I don't tend to put it on the entire vehicle because after a good 8 hours of detailing I am absolutely pooped, and my back is broken . I do put wax on my carbon hood, carbon hardtop, and hardtop lexan window for added protection though.
I use Menzerna Powerlock sealant, which is similar to the Wolfgang product. I have a supply of Autoglym wax sitting around, so I just use that on my carbon parts.
I would say do it if you don't mind the extra work. I would wait 24 hours after the sealant was applied/cured before topping it. Wax has a shorter lifespan than sealant, so you may find that you need to apply it every few months.
That sucks to hear about the clearcoat wearing down, polishing it too often does remove clearcoat. Hopefully you won't have to polish it too much going forward. I will only polish the car when it becomes really necessary, not every year. I've done it a couple times thus far. If you can keep the finish maintained with sealant and wax you might be able to avoid further polishing in the future. There are some nano coatings out there that are almost like putting on added clear, like opticoat. Checkout eshine.ca for some of the products they offer.
Using a two bucket washing system with grit guards helps to reduce swirl marks.

I use Chemical Guys JetSeal109, followed by a decent wax. I've been using Poorboy's Natty Red paste wax with great success. Many sealants give a very glassy look, which some prefer. I find the wax adds a bit of depth and warmth to the paint. Wax is also great to keep your paint sealant in tact. I'd say apply wax every 4th wash. Should help keep your paint protected from swirls. Also, wax helps dirt wash off easier, which means less scrubbing, and less swirls.

Randy, consider this for the areas where your clearcoat is getting worn

Purchased the poorboy's, Natty's Blue paste wax.
I have to say simple to apply and remove. The wowo method wax on wax off
no waiting for hazing.
The best part is, it smells like double bubble chewing gum
I would recommend it.
Thanks for the advice
