Default Overfilling gas tank

Hey guys, odd thing happened here.
Have a 2011 Hyundai Tucson. I know not the sexiest car... but it has a back seat
55 L tank.
Usually get around 400-500 kms per tank
Filled it up (from empty empty, like probably another 10-20 kms left)
and got 61 L into it?????? It was premium (because I wanted to see if it made any difference and my company was paying for the gas and not me)
Then I drive 300 KMS before it finally uses up 1 tick on my gas bar (digital) and now it says I have another 345 KMS left in range?

I googled it and they say not to over fill the tank and that it might be that the gas tank is just taking back vapour or something?
Have you guys ever overfilled the tank by THAT much? And have you ever experienced this phenomenon?
So strange?

I agree with not over-filling the tank, the rule of thumb is to stop at the first click, don't continue filling past the first click. I used to fill to the second or third click on my S2000 and I was getting some side effects from that. There is a vent pipe that goes to the vapour canister and if you overfill the tank too much you can get raw fuel going into the canister which isn't good. I don't know what happened with your fuel gauge but I suggest that you not fill past the first click.

Usually cars have a reserve tank, which is extra to that 55Ls, so you probably just used some of that and that's where the extra 6L went. You probably won't get that 345km that it says you have. just fill it when the light comes on and I wouldn't worry about it. It is just a Tucson anyways

I believe overfilling is bad for the paint/environment. An extra gallon isn't gonna hurt things. It's sloshing around either way
