highly unlikely these are the successor to the Z1 Star Spec
more likely to see the sport maxx race on more of a street use high end car in competition with tires like michelin pilot super sports
goodyear dunlop would be making a huge mistake if they discontinued the star spec

Going by nothing but the video, visually they seem to be made of a similar compound to whats used in the star specs, and have an asymmetrical pattern like the Potenza RE-11.
I think the Star specs were released in 2008? So they may have moved some of the tech from that tire to this new one. Nobody knows as of yet how these perform on the track, however when Star specs came out, they offered similar performance to an R-Comp tire of the era (or slightly older generations).
It wouldn't be a bad thing if this tire incorporated tech from the older star spec, and cost a little less and then they came out with an actual replacement for the Star spec as it is getting old in general, and I'm sure new manufacturing techniques, materials and technology have all changed in the last four years.
If they discontinued the star spec it would only be for a superior product so I don't think it would be a huge mistake.
