my most recent experience of idiotic sales...
I was looking to get myself a manual camera (Nikon FM3A to be specific)... so i call a few places to see if they have old new stock, this being a manual camera not alot of places stock them since everyone would rather go digital or Auto Focus. Even if they do, it's probably sitting on the shelf for a while...
and get this...
Nikon website MSRP: $819.95
Henry's List price: $749.99
I called this independent camera shop in scarborough here is how it goes...
Me: "Hi, do you guys have any Nikon FM3a in stock?"
Guy on phone: "FM3a? wow, haven't heard that for a while... let me check"
Me: "thanks"
Guy: "I think it's around 1000 bucks from Nikon, but let me see if we can do better..."
Me: "uhhh... ok"
Guy: "Acutally we have it in stock... it's $799"
Me: "Huh? can you do better than that?"
Guy: "it's a 1000 dollar camera from Nikon, no we can't"
Me: "Henry's is selling it for 749 bucks and they have stock in the downtown store, I was wondering if you can beat their price. How long has that camera been sitting on your shelf?"
Guy: "Sorry man, we don't do price match. Do you want it?"
Me: "Would you buy it if you know somewhere is selling it cheaper? What do i get for the extra 50 bucks i pay you over Henry's?"
Guy: "We provide better service."
Me: "Like what?"
Guy: "you come in, we greet you with a smile"
Me: "huh?"
Guy: "yeah man, you want it?"
Me: "50 bucks for smile eh? MacDonalds are giving them for free.. you must have gold front teeth or something... Thanks.. I don't want it... "
End up finding a store in Calgary (7% tax only, right Nemish?
) selling it for $670, shipping is $15.... now i really have to think if i should get it after all that hunting... heh
